Man collapses and dies on stairs at Ashford International station

A man from Lydd has died after collapsing at the Ashford International railway station.

Emergency services were called to the station after the man, in his 60s, suffered a suspected heart attack and collapsed on the stairs leading up to platforms 1 and 2 just after 3pm yesterday.

An ambulance and two police cars arrived on the scene, but paramedics were unable to revive the man.

South East Coast Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: "Sadly despite everyone's best efforts the man was pronounced dead on the scene."

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "The incident was reported to BTP at 3.36pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."
