New images have been released of a multimillion-pound recreation ground overhaul ahead of work starting.

Stone Recreation Ground in London Road, Dartford is to be transformed with a £4.3m makeover.

Construction is due to start on Monday (April 29) which will see upgrades including a new, larger cafe, an outdoor performance area and enhanced landscaping.

The upgraded amenities will also feature improved changing room facilities, an enhanced memorial garden, accessible equipment in the children’s playground with new footpaths and a changing places toilet.

Sports enthusiasts are also well catered for with a larger multi-use games area, climbing apparatus, outdoor gym, running track and pump track.

The upgrade is aimed at creating “a vibrant and inviting environment” for residents and promoting active lifestyles.

“We’re delighted to announce the start of construction on the much-anticipated upgrades to Stone Recreation Ground,” said Stone Parish Council chair Jessica McQueen.

“This project represents a significant investment in our community and reflects our commitment to providing high-quality recreational facilities for all to enjoy.”

“We understand that construction may cause some inconvenience, but we assure residents that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of all visitors. The result will be a fantastic recreational space that we can all take pride in.”

Councillor for Stone Castle ward Paul Cutler said the project has been a long time coming.

“It’s been a long journey,” he said. “The demographic is really growing in the area with new housing developments being built and there is a huge demand for outdoor space for people to get fresh air and exercise and focus on their well-being.”

“We are very pleased and excited.”

Funding for the project comes from the parish council, who has committed £650k upfront and is contributing a further £1.25m from future CIL receipts, while Dartford council is paying £2.55m.

The parish council had already committed funds of £650k towards the scheme and with the contribution from the council, work was able to start.

As construction gets underway residents are warned there may be temporary closures in place.

The new-look park is expected to be open by next spring.
