Dartford Football Club’s latest signing didn’t take long to get on the scoresheet.

Greyhound Princes Bark, trained by Pat Thompson, races for the Dartford FC syndicate, his racing name having been chosen by the club’s fans, and is based on their Princes Park ground.

The track has a close working relationship with the club as two of the main sporting venues in the local community.

The dog made a guest appearance at the football club in early March, accompanied by his trainer and representatives from the track, which gave the football supporters the chance to meet their latest star.

He proved to be popular with the fans and back at the track, after a desperately unlucky short head defeat here a week earlier, he went one better last Friday night when leading from trap to line to record a fast time of 23.91 over 380 metres.

Having spoken to his trainer, I now feel that the time is right to give him a trial run over the extended six bend distance of 540 metres.

Let’s hope that his form continues and that he will be on the scoresheet again soon.

This afternoon’s (Thursday) card features a £500 final for greyhounds in grade S6 over 540 metres.

This race has been sponsored by SIS, who are responsible for the transmission of live coverage of race meetings to all Bookmaker shops.

It is part of a national incentive which has seen the concern sponsoring such one-off events at all tracks that provide live greyhound racing to shops.

This level of prizemoney is not normally available to dogs of this calibre and the concept has certainly been welcomed throughout the industry.

The final will be run at 4.57pm and looks a tricky affair to pick a winner.

However, on paper you would have to fancy either Corbally Bound (trap 5) or Swift Siobhan (trap 6) to lead up to the first bend.

On the evidence of the semi-final rounds, my vote would have to go to Corbally, who should be able to hold of the challenge of Siobhan early on and, providing she can turn in front, she has the ability to land the money.
