Hundreds of nightclubbers evacuated after chemical incident

NEARLY 300 people had to be evacuated and three were taken to hospital after a pepper spray incident at a Kent nightclub.

Fire fighters responded to reports of a chemical being released into the OHM nightclub in Bexleyheath shortly before 2am on Saturday.

Specialist equipment from Euston and a hazardous chemicals officer were also brought to the scene.

However, on arrival police said they had a suspect and confirmed the substance was pepper spray.

The condition of the three people taken to hospital has not been confirmed, but common effects include irritation of the eyes, tears and temporary blindness.

Although initially uncomfortable, the symptoms are not permanent.

It is yet to be confirmed whether anybody has been charged.
