Sure of a big surprise in the woods

THE Blean Woodland Festival takes place this weekend to promote the use and preservation of local wood.

Families can enjoy a fun day out on Saturday and Sunday at the Kent University Business School in Parkwood Road, where stalls, stands and displays will be set up from 10am to 4pm.

The festival aims to promote the use of local wood for fuel and building, and there will be demonstrations of coppicing, chainsaw sculpture, bark peeling for stakes, and talks on the history of the area, wildlife conservation, and woodland management.

Fun activities will be laid on for children throughout the day, such as storytelling, woodland trails and a roadshow by Howletts and Port Lympne Animal Parks.

There will also be live music on both days and local food stalls.
