The aircraft landed on the school site 15 minutes later and left shortly after 4pm, once crews from Maidstone Hospital had arrived.

The incident is understood to not involve the school in any other way.

In a tweet to parents, a spokesman said: "Thank you to all students for their impeccable behaviour whilst leaving the building today.

"Our site was used by the air ambulance this afternoon transporting specialist emergency crews assisting a member of the public."

South East Coast Ambulance Service and the air ambulance have been approached for more information.

Police said they were not called to the incident.
